Chicago  GaY Game Arrival and Send off party

Thursday July 13th

I’ve arrived in Chicago!

After two years of preparations, I’m finally here.  It’s been two years of drama and triumphs, but I’m now here and ready.

It took a lot of preparation to get over a hundred Toronto athletes to this event, looking great.  And there are several individuals that need to be thanked for all their efforts.

Kudos to Mike Ferguson and Stephanie Laycock for the immense effort they put in with the Team Toronto uniforms.  Stephanie, Mike and their helpers devoted hundreds of hours surveying Team Toronto members, staffing the fitting sessions, putting the order together, putting the uniform together, and distributing them.  Roots was a great choice and they did a “Fabulous” job.  Team Toronto will look fantastic as we walk in Soldier Field for the Opening Ceremonies.

Thank you to Liz Devine and panel on the bursary program.  Ten deserving individuals are going to the Montreal or Chicago games that would otherwise not get a chance to attend an event that will be the experience of a lifetime.

Pat Barry put together a great send off party at the Olympic Spirit Podium Event Centre.  Thank you to Bill Walker and his staff for making us feel welcomed.  And thank you to Kyle Rae for reading Mayor David Miller’s proclamation.

Rob Lavery organized our Team Toronto cruise on the Chicago River on the Saturday morning to rally the troops for the opening ceremonies.

I’m staying here at Gay Central in Chicago – Chicago Hilton – base for the Gay Games, and it’s starting to be an incredible week.  Watch for delay reports on our website.

Yours in Sports,

Paul Savard

Team Toronto welcomes you to Gay Games Chicago!

Historically, Team Toronto has hosted a breakfast for its members on the day of Opening Ceremonies - but to ensure you have the best experience possible at the Gay Games, we are making sure you begin with the best possible experience of Chicago - and that can only happen by water!
